Free WordPress Plugins

Six free plugins from one WordPress.org developer account. Each card below covers what the plugin does, our honest read on it, and anything you should know before installing. Every download is the official package from the WordPress.org directory, so visitors always get the current version instead of a stale copy hosted elsewhere.

All six are free and none requires another in this set to work, so take only the ones you need. Two send your content to Groq, a third-party AI service, and only if you supply your own API key. DraftPilot AI Site Editor sends your brief to whichever AI provider you connect through WordPress core instead.

Back up your site before installing anything. Two things to read first: DraftPilot needs WordPress 7.0 or newer, and the InvestorySpot SEO Assistant overlaps with Rank Math, so running both means two plugins writing meta titles and descriptions to the same post.

DraftPilot AI Site Editor
Newest

DraftPilot AI Site Editor

Turn a one-sentence business brief into a complete draft site: pages, copy, palette, fonts and menu.

  • Version1.4.0
  • Updated26 Sep 2026
  • RequiresWP 7.0+
  • RuntimePHP 7.4+
  • InstallsNew

Describe the business in a sentence and it plans three to six sensible pages, writes copy for each section, picks a colour palette and font pairing, creates everything as drafts, then wires up a navigation menu and sets the front page. Any page can be refined in the block editor, or extended with a whole new section from one sentence. What sets it apart from the usual AI page builders is the foundation: it runs on the WordPress core AI Client introduced in 7.0, so it never stores API keys. You install whichever AI provider plugin you prefer and connect it under Settings → Connectors, and the provider handles models, credentials and billing. Generated output passes a block whitelist so only approved block types can be written, and page content is stored as JSON block attributes rather than executed code.

Worth knowing: Hard requirement on WordPress 7.0 or newer, so it will refuse to activate on 6.x. You need a separate AI provider plugin installed and connected first, and which models you get depends on that provider rather than this plugin. Version 1.4.0 is the first release built on the current core AI Client, so it is the newest and least field-tested of the six. Treat generated pages as a starting point to edit, not finished copy. There is a REST API under draftpilot-ai/v1 with delete-all and bulk-trash endpoints, so be deliberate about who has manage_options.

Data sent externally: Sends your business brief, site name and description to whichever AI provider you connect through core. Nothing is transmitted to the plugin author.

Simbe AI Article Generator

Simbe AI Article Generator

Draft SEO and GEO articles in 15 writing styles, then edit before anything publishes.

  • Version4.3.0
  • Updated26 Sep 2026
  • RequiresWP 6.0+
  • RuntimePHP 7.4+
  • Installs1,000+

The most established of the six. Give it a topic or a reference URL and it produces a structured draft with a title and meta description, which you then edit before anything goes live. Fifteen styles cover guide, opinion, news, tutorial, listicle, review, story, explainer, case study, comparison, trend, problem-solution, beginner, advanced and quick tips. It can add location context for GEO targeting, keeps your last 20 generations for quick access, shows live word count and reading time, and lets you pick a cover image from your media library. Because it saves as a draft rather than posting, it works as a drafting aid rather than a publishing machine, which is the right shape for a site where articles are expected to carry real sources.

Worth knowing: Without an API key the output is templated and will read as generic. With a Groq key it drafts better, but it is still first-draft material needing a fact-check against primary sources.

Data sent externally: Sends topic, style, length and location to Groq only when you click Generate with AI and have configured a key.

InvestorySpot SEO Assistant

InvestorySpot SEO Assistant

AI meta titles, descriptions and an on-page SEO score with a posts-list column.

  • Version1.2.0
  • Updated25 Sep 2026
  • RequiresWP 5.0+
  • RuntimePHP 7.4+
  • Installs800+

A meta box under the editor generates titles and descriptions on demand, suggests related keyphrases for a focus term, and scores the post out of 100 with a checklist of what to improve. The content checks are the practical part: length, heading structure, images, internal links, keyphrase use and readability. Scores show as a sortable, colour-coded column in the posts list, and a bulk tool clears out posts with no metadata. You choose the AI model, and auto-generate on save is off by default.

Worth knowing: Overlaps heavily with Rank Math on the metadata side. Run both and two plugins write meta title and description to the same post. Use it for scoring only, or run it on a site with no SEO plugin.

Data sent externally: Sends up to 300 words of post content plus your focus keyphrase to Groq when you click Generate or Analyze. No credentials or personal data.

InvestorySpot Stock Ticker

InvestorySpot Stock Ticker

Live stock and crypto prices in a scrolling ticker or table, with automatic provider fallback.

  • Version1.2.0
  • Updated25 Sep 2026
  • RequiresWP 5.0+
  • RuntimePHP 7.4+
  • Installs10+

Works out of the box because Yahoo Finance needs no key, which removes the usual friction with finance widgets. Alpha Vantage and Finnhub can be added as fallbacks and take over automatically if the primary provider fails, so a single provider outage does not blank your prices. Handles crypto as well as equities through symbols like BTC-USD, with a decimals setting so crypto prices display accurately. Colours for gains and losses are configurable, data is cached server-side, and the shortcode accepts overrides so different pages can show different symbols. For a markets site this is the workhorse of the set.

Worth knowing: The Yahoo Finance integration uses public endpoints and is not officially endorsed by Yahoo, so treat it as best-effort rather than a guaranteed feed. Finnhub free tier is personal use only. Keep the informational-purposes disclaimer in place, since price data can be delayed.

Data sent externally: Sends your configured stock symbols to the active provider on every fetch and refresh. No visitor personal data is sent.

Simbe Weather Ticker

Simbe Weather Ticker

Scrolling weather ticker and sortable table with inline icons. No API key needed.

  • Version1.1.0
  • Updated29 Sep 2026
  • RequiresWP 5.8+
  • RuntimePHP 7.4+
  • InstallsUnder 100

Small, focused and genuinely frictionless. Town search is built in, so there is no account or key to arrange, which is rarer than it should be in this category. Choose Celsius or Fahrenheit, and the table sorts by temperature, wind or condition. Available as a block or a shortcode, and the shortcode takes an explicit town list when you want something different from your saved set. Responses are cached so pages stay quick. This is the other plugin we run here.

Worth knowing: The least proven of the six, with a very small install count so far. It does one modest job well, but it has not been stress-tested by a wide audience yet.

Data sent externally: Weather data comes from Open-Meteo under CC BY 4.0. Their terms require credit, which the plugin provides by linking the ticker and table back to them. Leave that attribution in place.

Simbe AI Website Care

Simbe AI Website Care

Monitor plugins and themes against directory data and flag common misconfigurations.

  • Version1.2.0
  • Updated25 Sep 2026
  • RequiresWP 5.8+
  • RuntimePHP 7.4+
  • Installs200+

Audits every installed plugin and theme against the WordPress.org directory and flags them when they have been closed and removed, are no longer listed, have an update waiting, are untested against your WordPress version, have gone untouched for a long time, or need a newer PHP or WordPress release than you run. There is also a guided checklist covering debug mode, file permissions, HTTPS, PHP and database versions, auto-updates, backups, WP-Cron, memory limit, security headers and exposed files. Checks are written into Tools → Site Health and can alert you by email digest.

Worth knowing: Worth being clear about the limit: this reads public directory data, not a CVE database, so it cannot tell you about a vulnerability the directory has not flagged. Paired with a real scanner such as WPScan it becomes useful; alone it is a housekeeping aid. On a single site much of it overlaps Site Health.

Data sent externally: Uses only free public WordPress.org data. No API keys, no account, nothing leaves your site during a scan.

Installing

Download the zip, then in WordPress go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the file and activate. The simpler route is to search the plugin name in that same screen and install it from the directory, which also keeps updates automatic.

These plugins share an author but were built independently. Nothing here depends on anything else in the set.
